In KBA, we take umpire training seriously ! Providing new and returning umpires with solid training and in season support, thanks to our dedicated Umpire in Chief (UIC), John Luong, we pride ourselves with having some of the best baseball umpires in youth baseball in Ontario. Umpires are a very important part of every baseball game and having quality umpires positively impacts the playing experience for all involved; the players, coaches, parents and spectators
Minimum age for umpiring is 12 years old. Register yourself as an umpire (see details below under >>what you need to do now>>) and attend our introduction training / evaluation session lead by John Luong on Sunday March 29th, 9am-1pm at Stittsville Public School Gymnasium (room 114). We recommend that our first year umpires work in our Little League house league during your first year before considering training in OBA which covers the more competitive games.
All OBA Umpire training will be a "hybrid" of online self-guided learner (~2 hours) plus a 4 hour in-person Umpire Camp. Mandatory annual training for OBA umpires.
We are hosting two dates for Level 1/Level 2 Umpire Camps (only attend one date): April 12 and April 26, 1pm-5pm @ Stittsville Public School Gymnasium (room 114).
Register yourself as an umpire on our website (see details below) In early February, we will email you a link to register directly with OBA for our OBA umpire camp OBA is taking your payment directly as part of that registration process.
Level 3 umpires: it's an Exam Year for Level 3 umpires - register at On-Deck.
OBA trained umpires can work OBA Rep/Select competitive games and Little League games.
>>What you need to do now<<
For Umpires who want to exclusively work Little League games, we are offering a Training Session on Sunday April 19, 1pm-5pm at Stittsville Public School Gymnasium (room 114). Level 1.1 and 1.2 OBA umpires may be invited to attend this extra training for additional support, at the discretion of our UIC.
Overall goals/vision:
1) support and build-up our umpires through increased training and comradeship while creating a "KBA Umpiring Crew" where all umpires feel safe, valued and proud to belong.
2) Provide a means for umpires to ask questions/seek clarification from the Umpire In Chief(s) (UICs) (email alias, text, FAQ etc)
3) Provide a means for Coaches to give feedback on umpire performance at their games
4) Umpire recognition and retention plans
5) Improve umpire equipment and uniform provided by the league
