Spring - Little League


Little League introduces young ball players to player-pitch games.

Tiered Play. Sort-outs take place mid-April to organize players for best experience and chance to develop their skills.

Minor 9, 10, and some 11 year old boys and girls tiered according to skill. 
Major All 12 year old boys and girls must play in the Major division. Will also include majority of 11 year old boys and girls.
Duration: Early May to late June. 12 game regular season schedule plus play-offs.
Game Frequency: 1-2 games per week, usually weeknights.
Practices: 1 per week, usually on the weekend
Weekend play?: Possible, but weekends are often reserved for practices.
Play-offs: Games played after the Regular Season for 1 or 2 weeks mid-to-late June
   
Diamonds: Various fields including Tokessy and Roland Michener 
Field Size: 60-ft baselines
Pitching distance: 46 feet
Bats allowed: Wood bats and metal bats stamped with USABat logo.
Max diameter: 2 5/8"
Metal cleats allowed: No
Provided by league: Keeper team shirt, Keeper team hat
Provided by player: Batting helmet, baseball glove, pants suitable for playing sport, jock or jill, non-metal cleats or running shoes

All coaches are instructed to follow a strict guideline for pitch counts and associated rest periods in order to protect young and developing pitching arms. These guidelines are set out by Little League in cooperation with sports and medical authorities across North America.
