Policy - Ejections

Ejection Handling Policy

Purpose

This policy describes how ejections of players, adult volunteers, and spectators are handled, the process for reporting, and the consequences for repeat incidents.

1. Ejection Types and Immediate Consequences

  • Players: Ejected players must leave the field of play and dugout for the rest of the game, and are suspended for the next scheduled game.
  • Adult Volunteers: Ejected adults must leave the park immediately, take no further part in the game, and are suspended for the next scheduled game.
  • Spectators:
    1. OBA head coaches are responsible for their team's spectators.  If the umpire feels a spectator is being disruptive, the Head Coach will be warned to get the spectator under control.  If unsuccessful, the Head Coach will be ejected.  The umpire can also eject the spectator if they continue to be disruptive.
    2. Little League: If a spectator’s behavior warrants removal, the Head Coach for that team is responsible for ensuring the spectator leaves the premises for the remainder of the game.

2. Reporting Requirements

  • Ejection must be reported by the team's Head Coach within 24 hours to the correct Program Director - either House/LL (house@kanatabaseball.com) OR Competitive/OBA (competitive@kanatabaseball.com) AND the league Disciplinary Committee (discipline@kanatabaseball.com ). The report must include the name of the ejected individual, date, field/location and brief incident summary.
  • All Umpires are mandated to submit a written Incident Report to the league Umpire in Chief (UIC, John Luong) (umpsched@kanatabaseball.com) and the UIC will forward the report to the KBA Disciplinary Committee (discipline@kanatabaseball.com) if he feels it is warranted for follow up.
  • For OBA games and tournaments, our OBA trained umpires are mandated to fill in a “Game Incident Report Form” for all ejections (Game Incident Report - Ontario Baseball Association

3. Failure to Report

  • If any ejection is not reported as required, the Head Coach may face additional disciplinary action, including possible game forfeiture or suspension of up to 3 games, following Disciplinary Committee review.

4. Review and Additional Discipline

  • All ejections are reviewed by the Disciplinary Committee.
  • Repeat offenses (second ejection in one season):
    • Players or Adult Volunteers: Subject to longer suspension or removal for the season, following Disciplinary Committee review.
    • Spectators: May be banned from attending future games if repeatedly ejected, on recommendation by the Disciplinary Committee and at the discretion of the Board.
  • Serious incidents (e.g., violence, abuse) may result in immediate season removal for all roles.

5. Appeals

  • Any suspension longer than two games may be appealed in writing to the Disciplinary Committee, whose decision is final.

6. Expectations

  • All participants and spectators must conduct themselves respectfully, per the Kanata Baseball Association Codes of Conduct
  • Ejected individuals may not communicate with the team or participate in any capacity until their suspension is complete.
